The history of the Jewish cemetery goes back to the first half of the 18th century.

The cemetery is first mentioned in 1736 in an inventory dated June 13, 1736, the "Guntersblume Court Book of 1736" (pp. 647-650; kept in the Speyer State Archive under LAS-U 187/285, fol. 317; communication from Dieter Michaelis, Guntersblum dated April 10, 2013). Accordingly, J. Georg Schätzel had an inventory of his house and farm drawn up because of his old age. It was to be sold, partly to pay off debts, partly to bequeath it to his children and his wife - subject to age restrictions for the old couple. Among the properties listed is a property of "1 ½ acres (?) Weingarten am Juden Kirchhof".

In 1829, the board of directors of the Jewish community complained that the climbing path (today Eimsheimer Straße) had been converted into a driveway against their objection. During the widening, the adjacent cemetery was ruthlessly dug up, so that even corpses were uncovered. To prevent other parts of the cemetery from sliding down towards the street, the owners asked the local community to build a wall. The request was denied, so the Jewish community had to build the wall themselves.

The oldest surviving tombstone is from 1849. It is the stone for the head of the Israelite community Joseph Salm and his wife Jeanette.

One of the many small Jewish cemeteries in Rheinhessen (further, for example near Osthofen and directly at the stain wall in Flörsheim Dalsheim). On the one hand, these cemeteries show that Jews were part of our society and, on the other hand, they remind us how abruptly the coexistence with National Socialism ended. At this point everyone should once again become aware of the unbelievable abominations of blind racism

The Jewish cemetery of Guntersblum is on Eimsheimer Strasse. The RheinTerrassenWeg leads past it.
