San Mariano is one of the most populous hamlets in the municipality of Corciano (PG) and is located approximately 7 km from the capital. It comprises the old medieval village, the Girasole neighborhood, and the Villaggio dei Tigli. The village sits on three hills: the castle, the cemetery, and the Badia area; the old part of the village sits atop a hill (315 m above sea level). The surrounding area was initially occupied by the Etruscans. The old medieval village is dominated by the castle and the church of Santa Maria Assunta.
