Tips

The path leads uphill and downhill, partly on narrow, natural paths across the forest. Through the two waterfalls and the beautiful Edenbachtal this hike is entertaining and varied. The natural, unspoiled stretches are also very popular among the youngest hikers.

Especially for families with children and also dogs a very eventful section. Definitely great in the summer to pause at the creek.

Also our children had their fun to walk along the rope. Of course it is not a real via ferrata.

Progress is slow on wet ground!

Edenbach Gorge / Wieslauf Gorge Welzheim

The 42 hectare nature reserve Wieslaufschlucht and Edenbachschlucht consists of two parts, the Wieslaufschlucht and the gorge of the Edenbach flowing into the Laufenmühle. Here all geological layers from the sandstone down to the Gipskeuper are open. The harder sandstone and stone marl layers form steps and waterfalls, while the soft clay stones form embankments and steep walls. The highest waterfalls are directly at the Laufenmühle. Here the Edenbach initially falls five meters in free fall, then cascades down the hard bench of the Lower Stuben Sandstone. The waterfall plunges into a rocky cauldron with huge sandstone blocks and a giant mikado made from broken trees. Just 50 meters from the Edenbachfall, right next to the road, the Wieslauf also falls over a Fleinsbank. The higher Edenbachschlucht is a little gentler. The stream flows quickly in many small turns and has flat gliding banks with sand banks, alternating with steep bumpy slopes and steep banks. Sure-footedness and good footwear are essential here!

A great gorge that seems a little less wild than the neighboring meadow canyon. Both gorges in a tour a sensational experience.

Great gorge, which is however somewhat in the shadow of the Wieslaufschlucht. Both gorges can be connected very well.

Edenbachschlucht is almost more beautiful than the Wieslaufschlucht.

Definitely take children + climbing equipment, since the pioneering spirit of the little ones comes out full!

The hiking trail Mühlenwanderweg will lead us through the Edenbachtal. We walk through the natural Edenbachtal on a narrow path above the stream. The Edenbachtal is not quite as adventurous as the Wieslaufschlucht or Strümpfelbachtal.
