One of San Francisco’s first parks, established in 1847, completely renovated with new grass, bathrooms, benches etc in 2019. A popular North Beach stop for visitors and locals alike, this lively urban oasis is bordered by sidewalk cafes and restaurants, as well as Saint Peter & Paul’s Church. The Square is a natural community gathering place with a long and fascinating history, hosting festivals, free movie nights and other special events throughout the year. It’s also a great spot to people-watch, or just relax on the lawn on a sunny day.
Free public WiFi. The city parks department has info here: sfrecpark.org/destination/washington-square
A time capsule sealed in 1879 in the base of the Ben Franklin statue in the middle of the park is opened once every 100 years. Last time in 1979 foundsf.org/index.php?title=Time_Capsule_In_Washington_Square_Park
