Best Hikes to Oberstadt Moated Castle

Tips

  • The Wasserburg awarded the Counts of Henneberg 1380 as a fief to the Lords of Kießling. In 1397 the castle was destroyed as a robber's nest. The bower is still preserved. 1469 followed the Marschalk of Ostheim and 1606 the Hennebergische supervisor Humpert von Langen. In the 15th and 16th centuries, the Kemenate was extended to Wasserburg and rebuilt in 1607 to the present moated castle. (Source: Wikipedia) Johann Georg von Langen, the founder of modern, regular forestry, was born here in 1699. The castle is extensively renovated and is now privately owned. Although it can not be visited inside, but offers a charming sight even from the outside.
