On my tour, I had actually planned to have a delicious fish sandwich here, but even on Monday afternoon, everything was booked, and admission was limited due to the coronavirus pandemic.

So I would have had to wait a long time...a real shame, but it's a testament to the good quality.

My brother was here last week on a motorcycle tour and is still raving about the delicious eel platter.

The rustic, comfortably furnished Aalkate is located directly on the Kiel Canal and offers an incomparable view of passing ocean liners and cruise ships from all over the world. They serve fish dishes from their own catch, such as plaice, zander, trout, eel, and herring. Meat dishes, various salads, and other delicacies can also be found on the menu.

On sunny afternoons, the canal is the perfect place for a long walk or bike ride. Afterwards, you can relax on the terrace and fortify yourself with a fresh fish sandwich or other delicacies. The fish on offer is predominantly fried, smoked, or pickled from the fishery's own catch. In spring, when the herring migrates through the canal, the annual "freshly fried herring" offering is available.
