The trailhead for the Lower Twin Lakes—or the larger Twin Lakes—route is the Vista Lake Day Use Area off Highway 93, approximately 8 km south of Castle Junction.

From there you’ll cross small creek bridges and gain elevation steadily as you pass by Arnica Lake and eventually reach Upper Twin Lake and then Lower Twin Lake.

The section approaching Lower Twin Lake features muddy and root-filled trail sections, and you’ll walk through forest and meadow terrain with views of Storm Mountain dominating the backdrop.
