    Tips

    October 25, 2025

This part of the Centennial Trail descends through the beautiful ponderosa pines of Black Hills National Forest, with dry tread and scattered rock underfoot. Along the way, you’ll pass occasional bur oak trees and dense thickets of chokecherry and snowberry, with Rocky Mountain juniper edging the trail in sunnier spots. Wild turkeys and white-tailed deer are common here, and the scattered granite and long ridgelines set a fitting backdrop for the quiet, rugged terrain.
