At Moore Haven, the Lake Okeechobee Scenic Trail detours away from the lakeside levee to cross the Caloosahatchee Canal. The pedestrian route isn’t marked on maps and doesn’t link directly from the trail—hikers must descend from the dike, follow local roads through town, go on a dirt path next to a field and then join the pedestrian sidewalk on the US 27 bridge. The crossing is short and safe, with railings and good visibility. Once across, you can explore the town or rejoin the levee north of the canal, where the trail continues toward Lakeport.
