Over 20 meters in diameter and more than two meters high, the largest burial mounds clearly protrude from the gold
becker heather. Others are hidden between trees or under the purple flowering heather. Archaeologists have documented 70 burial mounds in the 7.5 hectare nature reserve.

The 7.5 hectare landscape protection area 'Goldbecker Heide' is located in the south of the district of Stade in the joint municipality of Apensen on the border with the district of Harburg.
It is the largest dry heath area in the district with numerous typical animal and plant species such as red-backed shrike, juniper and common heather. With around 70 burial mounds from three millennia and vaulted fields from the Middle Ages that are still clearly visible, the Goldbecker Hügelgräberheide is also an important archaeological site.
