Hiking

The castle, a landmark of the town, was built around 1250 by the Lords of Säben. Between 1465 and 1671, it served as the seat of the prince-bishop's magistrate. It was burned down in 1671. Reconstruction began in 1895. While the keep still contains parts of the former castle complex, the residential wing was completely rebuilt. The view from the church square of the houses on the hillside with the castle above is one of the town's most important architectural sights. Branzoll Castle is privately owned, and access to the castle complex is unfortunately not permitted.
