The construction of the church
The old Arab mosque once stood on this site. In 1505, the Church of the Encarnación was built here, as was customary in the newly established diocese of Málaga, which replaced Arab culture and symbols with Christian faith.
The new church was designed in Mudéjar style, with three naves, seven pointed arches, and a beautifully carved wooden ceiling. Today, this remarkable building has been officially declared a Cultural Heritage of Interest.
