There is also a water organ on the bridge.
The water and light organ offers a show every full hour from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., accompanied by two pieces of music. In between there are fountains every 15 minutes without music.

The seven-arched stone Lahn bridge was built in 1288. It is one of the oldest bridges in Hessen. At about the height of the Paulaner restaurant you can take great pictures with the cathedral in the background.

The seven-arched bridge was built in the 13th century and is one of the oldest preserved bridges in today's Hesse. Since the bridge has been reserved for pedestrians and cyclists, it has been part of the promenade in the area of the two Wetzlar Lahn islands.

Beautiful during the day and in the evening. And when the bridge is reflected in the water, you have a great photo opportunity.

If you use the Alte Lahnbrücke as an entrance to the Wetzlar old town, the cathedral view gives you a first foretaste of the old town with its numerous half-timbered houses and the extraordinary, never completed cathedral with its very different and therefore particularly attractive structural components.

Of course, a look at the Lahn should not be missing on a tour of Wetzlar 😅.

The stone Old Lahn Bridge in Wetzlar is a seven-arched bridge over the Lahn and the Lahn Island, probably built in the 13th century. It is one of the oldest surviving bridges in Hesse.
The bridge is 104 m long and 6.45 m wide. It rests on seven circular arcs. Viewed from upstream, the two outer arches have a clear width of 7.40 m and 8 m respectively, the middle ones from 10 m to 10.50 m. The roadway is curved and falls 1.90 m from its highest point towards the old town and 2.40 m towards suburb.
The founding chronicle of the Altenberg Monastery names the priest Gottfried von Beselich († around 1180), who initiated the construction of the bridge and collected alms for it.

It was probably built between 1250 and 1280 instead of a wooden bridge, making it one of the oldest surviving bridges in Hesse. It has been changed several times over time. In the 15th century the pillars were reinforced by icebreakers. City views from the 17th century show two tower structures that were demolished in 1832, one of which was a prison tower. Around 1865 the parapet masonry was replaced with an iron grille to create a walkway. Extensive renovation work was carried out between 1977 and 1981. These were necessary because of static problems caused by the tower's demolition. In this context, the iron railing was removed again and replaced by a parapet, which is based on the original one, but consists of a concrete core covered with rubble stones.

In 2011, the bridge was closed to car traffic; since then it has only been allowed to be used by pedestrians and cyclists.

My tip for this beautiful bridge over the Lahn is: take your time, stroll slowly across it, listen to the music and let the water rush. This is relaxation to the point of brainwashing. A visit to the nearby beer garden speeds up this process. I know the old Main Bridge in Würzburg, there the attitude to life is promoted by a wine on the bridge.
