The town of Dawson sports part of the Raccoon River Valley Trail (RRVT) that links to several other multi-use pathways throughout central Iowa. Dawson has two camping areas: one in the midst of town and another just outside, adjacent to the trail by the name of Sportsman Park. There aren't any convenience stores or shops within the town of Dawson, but a short jaunt to perry via the trail will connect you to numerous businesses.

The trailhead is marked with an old train depot, painted yellow. Bike maintenance stands and temporary rest options for cyclists are provided. There are also trash bins and pet waste bags.
