The Levada do Rei, a 5.3 km long hiking trail (plus 5.3 km round trip), leads through the island's lush natural landscape to a unique, protected area. The hike, rated as moderate, takes approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes. Since there are hardly any inclines, it is not particularly strenuous.

There is a fee for the Levada hike. An attendant stands near the trailhead parking lot informing visitors that the fee applies.

Visitors aged 12 and over pay €4.50.

Payment is possible via QR code through the SIMplifica portal.

Cash payments are not accepted.

The northern section of the Levada do Rei (PR18) near São Jorge on Madeira leads through dense laurel forest – a UNESCO-protected biotope with moss-covered stones, ancient trees, and lush green ravines.
