According to tradition, the plague raged in 1636 in Daleiden and surroundings.
The 13 surviving Daleides made the vow to build a chapel in the event of survival in honor of St. Aloysius and to commemorate it each year on Sunday after June 21, the day of the death of St. Aloysius, with a procession to his chapel.

The first small chapel was soon replaced by a larger one. The current building was built around 1900 from the stones of the old cemetery wall (at the church).
Over the years, not only Daleidener, but also pilgrims from the neighboring communities took part in the procession. There used to be up to a thousand pilgrims who made their way through the festively decorated houses, through the triumphal arches erected, and afterwards enjoyed dance music. "
