The small ice pond was created by Rudolf Zersch for cooling beer in the 19th century.
The large ice pond was created in the 18th century by Count Heinrich 43rd Reuss-Köstritz. On the island there was originally a monument made of stacked rock with a sarcophagus designed by the Berlin architect Friedrich. It was called "Amalia Stone". The “Amalia Stone” was destroyed after 1945.
