The Borsigturm is considered Berlin's first skyscraper and is therefore a novelty of Berlin's modern age. It was built as the office building of the Borsigwerke, which at that time was Europe's largest manufacturer of locomotives. Although the tower is not a skyscraper, yet impressive at 65 meters, it quickly became the landmark of the Borsigwerke. Like the rest of the remaining buildings of the Borsigwerke, the tower is a listed building. There are still offices in the tower and events are taking place there. There is a shopping center in the former locomotive factory next door. The old walls have made it into the new time and you can cycle through or go and experience them up close.
