The Borsigturm is considered Berlin's first skyscraper and is therefore a novelty of Berlin's modern age. It was built as the office building of the Borsigwerke, which at that time was Europe's largest manufacturer of locomotives. Although the tower is not a skyscraper, yet impressive at 65 meters, it quickly became the landmark of the Borsigwerke. Like the rest of the remaining buildings of the Borsigwerke, the tower is a listed building. There are still offices in the tower and events are taking place there. There is a shopping center in the former locomotive factory next door. The old walls have made it into the new time and you can cycle through or go and experience them up close.

It wasn't until 1922 that Berlin received its first high-rise - far from the city center on the company premises of the Tegeler Borsigwerke. It is there today as one of the last relics of a past industrial era. The base of the 65 meter high tower is 20 by 16 meters. The tower quickly became the symbol of the Borsigwerke.

No matter what you think of "consumer temples" like the "Hallen am Borsigturm": This is a very successful reuse of an unused industrial monument. The area should perhaps be explored on foot: "Tower", shopping center with facades of the old halls, a gate entrance that was integrated into the new facade, of course the gate entrance, but also the start-up center, the free-standing roof, the ruin, which are in the green area embedded tracks, in the shopping center the old steel truss columns. And like to look at the history in Wikipedia: de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Borsig_(Ununternehmen)
