The castle Virnsberg, first mentioned in 1235, was for a long time in the possession of the Teutonic Order and belonged to the Deutschordensballei Franken. From 1806 the castle changed hands often; they were mostly private individuals, but also institutions (eg the Evangelische Wohlfahrt). In 1977, the Nuremberg lawyer Friedrich von Herford acquired the castle and in 2001 transferred it to the non-profit Schlossverein Virnsberg e. V.
The castle complex consists of a medieval hilltop castle with a polygonal burgring, which was extended in 1700 by a baroque horseshoe-shaped farmyard and surrounded by a castle pond. (Source: Wikipedia)
