The Pinhão River has its source at Fonte de São João, at the site of Raiz do Monte, in the parish of Vreia de Jales, in the municipality of Vila Pouca de Aguiar and is a tributary of the right bank of the Douro River, which, after a course of about 30 km, flows into the river near the city of Pinhão.
