The town of Rorschach is located between the rolling hills of the Appenzellerland and the gigantic expanse of the lake. It received market rights as early as 947 and advanced to become the most important trading center on the southern shore of the lake in the Middle Ages. The imposing town houses in the town center bear witness to this to this day. Ships depart daily from the port of Rorschach to Lindau, the island of Mainau/Meersburg and via the Altenrhein to Rheineck.
