    Enter the Holy Cross Wilderness within the San Isabel National Forest. There is a box with free-of-charge permits that you need to fill out when entering the wilderness. It is named after the most famous 14er in central Colorado: Mount of the Holy Cross.

      Holy Cross Wilderness was established in the 80s as a protected wilderness area, and today it stretches 122,797 acres with 164 miles of trails. It was carved by glaciers during the Pinedale glaciation period.
