The Schanz or also called Schanze is a low mountain range of the Swabian-Franconian forest mountains. The pass is an important traffic route from the central Neckar area to the north-eastern part of the country. A cycle path runs parallel to the road. The railway line goes through the Schanz tunnel at the bottom.

The view of the valley is quite nice. The section of the Murrtal cycle path is, however, not nearly as idyllic as it looks in the pictures. It goes directly on the much traveled country road along the slope. Down, not an issue, it's over quickly. High rather a boring agony.
