This fort was built by Heritage Park in 1965 to illustrate the important role of the Hudson's Bay Company (HBC) in Canada's economic, social, and resource development. The HBC once had operations in Alaska, along the North Pacific coast of British Columbia, and in Oregon and Labrador.
Heritage Park originally designed the HBC structure as a replica of the second fur trading fort, built in 1835 at Rocky Mountain House, Alberta. The forts were each staffed by approximately 30 workers, interpreters, clerks, apprentice clerks, and traders, and were led by a chief trader or chief broker.
