Shark Bay in Western Australia is one of only two places in the world where these diverse and complex ecosystems (living marine stromatolites) exist.
Stromatolites are among the oldest living fossils known to man and are found in Hamelin Pool in the Shark Bay World Heritage Area. There are only two places in the world where these rare organisms occur and Hamelin Pool is considered the most diverse and best example.
