Hamelin Pool Telegraph Station was built in 1884. It was a key link in the telegraph line between Perth and Roebourne and was originally named Flint Cliff Telegraph Station after a local landmark. The station played an important role in Western Australia's communications system until the public telegraph system brought its demise in the late 1950s.

Also known as Flagpole Landing in the early 20th century, Hamelin Pool was the landing point for cargo ships bringing supplies to and shipping wool from surrounding stations when roads did not exist. Wool was transported by horse and wagon to small ships near shore for transport to larger ships in deeper waters.
