The Molbeck Ponds are located near the old village of Speckhorn. Speckhorn belonged to the municipality of Recklinghausen-Land, which was dissolved on April 1, 1926. Since its dissolution, Speckhorn has been part of the city of Recklinghausen.
Speckhorn has a village-like character, while the Speckhorn residential areas of Beising (in the west) and Börste (in the southeast) are more scattered.
The two ponds were originally created as firefighting ponds and were used by the Speckhorn fire department to extinguish fires in the village.
Today, the ponds are a local recreation area next to the toboggan hill, which was built around 1960.
Excavation by the two savings bank towers on the Wallring caused the hill to grow, and at an impressive 120 meters, it was for a long time the highest point in Recklinghausen until the Hoheward slag heap dethroned it.

It is nevertheless a beautiful local recreation area, if not the most beautiful.
Café Herzlichen offers a nice place for a relaxing break.
