Inside the cave, which is located on the eastern side of Monte Generoso, the "Orso Cave", the University of Milan has brought to light finds of over 500 cave bears (Ursus spelaeus) lived and extinct on the Monte Generoso between over 30,000 and 50,000 years ago.
During the excavations in the Caverna (Grotta dell'Orso), some findings emerged that can be attributed to the Neanderthal Man, who lived in the historical period between 40,000 and 60,000 years ago. There are four finds: the first two were discovered in 1998, and the rest in 2002, discovered in the "Sala Terminale".
The visits, individual or in group, are always carried out with an expert guide.

Also known as Caverna Generosa, it was discovered in 1988 by two speleologists
of the Ticino Section who, traveling through the area in the summer, identified its opening. Given the small size of this opening, it had to be enlarged in any case
to allow passage.
