The village of Hvam Stationsby was first established with the construction of the Himmerlandsbanerne (Himmerland Railway) around the Hvam Station. The actual village of Hvam (now also known as Gammel Hvam) lies just under two kilometers further west.
The village lies on the Himmerlandsstien cycling and hiking trail, on the track bed of the former railway line. The former station building is clearly recognizable as such.
