Hrad Mírov, one of the oldest castles in Moravia, is located on a rocky outcrop near Mohelnice. Since the 18th century, the castle has served as a prison, initially as a priest's prison and from 1870 onwards as a state prison. To this day, it remains one of the highest-security prisons in the Czech Republic.
