To some extent, Dollern is almost as if it were an inhabited museum village. The old farmsteads are partly still managed as normal, but the traditional hall houses including old additions are very well preserved.

Overall, the location is beautiful. It is right on the edge of the Old Country (which is indeed in the Depression) and the pond is a natural sink, which has filled up with water after the Ice Age.
