In 1883, Hermann Julius Beyreuther, who owned a sawmill in the Beyreuther district north of Johanngeorgenstadt, which bears his name, had a wood grinding mill built on the old Kellerbrücke bridge in the Steinbachtal valley. He equipped it with, among other things, a steam plant for steaming and grinding timber felled in the nearby area. The brown wood pulp obtained in this way was used as a raw material for the industrial production of cardboard, carton boxes, and packing paper.
