Back in 1954, in the village of Petrovsky in the Gavrilovo-Posad district, in accordance with the plan for the development of rural electrification, the Petrovskaya hydroelectric power station with a capacity of 475 kW with an overflow dam was built and put into operation on the Nerl River.

The dam maintained a pressure of 4.0 m at the hydroelectric power station, and a pressure of 2.90 m at the spillway threshold. In addition to hydroelectric purposes, the retaining horizon provided water intake for the distillery's technical water supply.

12 years later (in 1965), during the spring flood, the dam's spillway was partially damaged. Four rotary trusses were torn off and carried away, the stilling and drainage floors, and the ice cutters were partially destroyed. A major overhaul of the entire hydroelectric complex was required. But the operating organization had no money, the hydroelectric power station was stopped and ceased its work, and electricity consumers were connected to other networks

In 1967, the hydroelectric power station dam was transferred to the balance sheet of the Petrovsky distillery. A year later, its management decided to restore the dam by replacing some of the wooden structural elements with concrete and reinforced concrete ones, as they were more durable. The dam was restored after reconstruction only in 1972.

In 2016, the dam was finally destroyed by the spring flood. The collapse of the structure during the 2016 flood occurred as a result of long-term operation of the dam with destroyed stilling and drain floors. The hydraulic structure was then liquidated. The hydromechanical and power equipment was dismantled. And the hydroelectric power station building with a concrete block of turbine chambers remained to delight fans of ruins and lovers of photo sessions.
