The Šilutė church was considered one of the most beautiful Evangelical Lutheran churches in East Prussia.

The land for the church and the parsonage was donated by manor owner Hugo Scheu. The church was built in 1926, designed by architect K. Gutknecht. The exterior is dominated by a 50-meter tower, which houses three bells and the largest tower clock in Lithuania.

The interior features columns, balconies, stained glass windows, and paintings, with seating for 950 people. Behind the central altar is an 80 m² fresco painted by Richard Pfeifer, a former professor at the Königsberg Art Academy. The fresco depicts 104 figures, including Catholic saints, leaders of the Reformation and Evangelical Church, scholars, artists, church council members, and the church’s builders. The donor H. Scheu is also portrayed, holding a model of the church in his hands (bottom right).
