Since 1980, the Catholic Court Church in Dresden has been the cathedral of the Diocese of Dresden-Meissen. The Court Church is not only Dresden's newest Baroque building, but with a floor area of almost 4,800 square meters, it is also Saxony's largest church. The crypt contains 48 sarcophagi of Saxon rulers, including the heart of Augustus the Strong. The Court Church was built between 1739 and 1755 under the direction of the Italian architect Gaetano Chiaveri.
