After the uprising of 1863-1864, when the Catholic church was still open, the Orthodox, who were restored by the Tsarist government, decided to build a separate Orthodox church.

A. Christianovičius built a temporary church in Tytuvėnai in 1872 in his estate, but a new stone church was built in 1873-1875. The parish was looked after by the priests of Raseiniai and Kolaių.

The Soviet authorities sought to close this church: in 1947 they wanted to set up a warehouse, in 1953 they ordered the debts that the clergy had managed to cover to be paid. Currently, the church is a branch of the Šiauliai St. Apostles Peter and Paul Church. The Orthodox believe that the grace of the Holy Spirit is achieved through prayer, asceticism and intense willpower.
