Built 1818-1828 as part of the preuss. Coblenz Fortress (in front of the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress). Named after General E.-L. von Aster. After 100 years of military use, the softening with the razing of the outdoor facilities and later left to decay for various civil uses, a citizens' initiative tried, voluntarily / free of charge, to preserve the remaining redoubt from 1996 to 2009.
In a painstaking process, the municipal facility was cleared, looked after, secured, made usable and presented to the public.
