Old Hammer in Hohenberg – Origin of the Iron Industry. The "Großer Hammer" building, an important site of regional iron processing, once stood on this site. As recently as 1930, two steel stretching hammers were still in operation here for the Furthof file factory. As early as 1835, 14 workers were employed, manufacturing, among other things, ship anchors, anvils, and heavy tools. Thoman and Cathrina Schwaiger are listed as owners in the land register of the Hohenberg estate.

The facility, built between 1965 and 1966, commemorates the beginnings of the iron industry in Hohenberg and preserves the memory of this formative part of local economic history. A worthwhile stop for anyone who wants to experience a piece of industrial history on a bike tour.
