At 3:25 p.m. on April 3, 1916, eyewitnesses reported a clap of thunder and clouds of smoke. The light and noise came from a meteorite falling from space to earth, which hit a forest near Rommershausen. The location of the meteorite fall was initially unknown. Based on the reports, a circular area with a radius of about 135 km came into question. According to newspaper reports, the area around Treysa and Ziegenhain was found to be the location of the fall
