The tomb of Saint Ida is located in the Church of St. Ida in Herzfeld an der Lippe. Ida was a relative of Charlemagne. While resting in Herzfeld, she was given the commission in a dream to build a church there, on the banks of the Lippe. After the death of her husband in 811, who was laid to rest on the south side of the church, a portico was built over the tomb, where Ida lived and cared for the needy. After her death, her tomb in the portico became the first pilgrimage site in Westphalia. Today, Saint Ida's sarcophagus and remnants of the church she built can be seen in a burial crypt.
As a parish church and pilgrimage basilica, St. Ida's Basilica is a significant landmark.
