The "Aussichtsreich" guesthouse and lodging house is located high above Bad Harzburg on the castle hill (483 m above sea level), which can only be reached from the town on foot or by cable car.

The first mention of the castle dates back to the 8th century, and is attributed to the Saxon idol Krodo. The first castle was built between 1065 and 1068 under Emperor Henry IV. After the defeat in the Saxon Revolt in 1074, the castle's destruction was decided upon. In 1180, Barbarossa rebuilt and expanded the castle. In 1218, Emperor Otto IV died on the castle hill, where the imperial insignia were kept until 2010. The castle changed hands several times until the 16th century, when Duke Augustus the Younger had it demolished in 1650.

Since then, the castle remains have been subject to repeated excavations and security measures. In the meantime, the "Förderverein Historischer Burgberg Bad Harzburg e.V." (Friends of the Historical Castle Hill Bad Harzburg e.V.) has been founded.

The "Aussichtsreich" guesthouse and lodging house reopened in 2014 and promises to captivate and delight both the palate and the mind. Located in the heart of the castle hill, visitors are treated to an unforgettable view. Inside the "Aussichtsreich" (View Realm), you can observe and experience the exciting vagaries of the weather both indoors and outdoors. "Watching the weather at work" was a phrase recently coined by Dirk Junicke, owner of the guesthouse and lodging house.

From the Canossa Column, you have a fantastic view extending far into the Harz foothills. The Canossa Column on the castle hill plateau was erected there in 1877 in honor of German Chancellor Otto von Bismarck.
