The cabbage mill, one of eight mills in Pottenstein, originally built around 1718, was affected by the great fire in Pottenstein in 1736, then rebuilt and is therefore one of the oldest buildings in the rock town. Operated as a grinding mill, the mill still has an undershot, fully functional water wheel on the northern wall of the building. The mill wheel is operated by a specially diverted tributary of the Püttlach. Today the Kohlmühle is privately owned by the Zambelli family and houses a cozy guest house.
