The District Court in Głogów was built between 1908-1911 according to the design of Emil Friede, a county architect from Zielona Góra, and stands on six heavy columns whose foundations were placed at the very edge of the moat. The building was constructed on a site that had served as the seat of Głogów's justice system since medieval times, where a prison with torture facilities once stood between the current court and the former Brzostowska Gate.

Originally functioning as an Amtsgericht (court of first instance), the building continues to serve as one of the most functional court buildings in Silesia today.

The court building temporarily housed a correctional facility for boys around 1953-54, which included a school and practical vocational training in carpentry and metalwork before being relocated in the late 1970s.
