"Hidden behind the municipal cemetery of Dannemarie lies the Nécropole Nationale, where rest nearly 400 French soldiers who fell during the Battle of the Borders in the summer of 1914. 250 lie in individual graves, 139 in two ossuaries. Among them are two brothers: Pierre and Antoine Gillot, who died in the two world wars. This serene place, with a monument at the entrance, recalls the fierce fighting in the Sundgau and is a quiet stop full of meaning for those travelling through this historic landscape."
