Wild geese can be found on the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula at various times of the year, particularly in the protected lagoon waters of the Western Pomerania Lagoon Area National Park. Greylag geese breed there and gather in the lagoon waters during the moulting season. In winter, the lagoon waters are an important resting place for many migratory bird species, including bean geese, white-fronted geese, and barnacle geese, which feed in the shallow shore areas.
