Tower, Minnesota, was founded in 1889 and is the second-oldest city in the area, following Duluth. Like many nearby attractions, its history is tied to the iron ore mining industry, particularly through the nearby Soudan Mine. Tower is home to Lake Vermilion, with its nearly 40,000 acres of water and the Tower Train & Depot Museum.
