The Externsteine are a really impressive place for our area. On forest roads and paved roads, some of which follow the old tram line to the Externsteine, you can get here from Paderborn very well by bike. If you feel like it, you can climb the stones on the stone steps and enjoy a great view over the Teutoburg Forest from the viewing platform of Externsteine.

  • ROBERT, mit dem Rad & Hund durchs Land.

In the northeastern part of North Rhine-Westphalia, located in the southern part of the district of Lippe or in the Teutoburg Forest, the Externsteine belong to Horn-Bad Meinberger district Holzhausen-Externsteine, which is approximately 1.1 km (as the crow flies) northwest.

Stairs carved into the Externsteine to facilitate the ascent (2012)
The rocks are part of the middle mountain chain of the Teutoburg Forest. They are located in the southeast of this low mountain range adjacent to the Eggegebirge. Towards the northwest, the Externsteine go directly into the rising forested slopes of the Bärensteins and to the southeast directly into those of Knickenhagens over. Directly past the rock group flows in the catchment area of the Weser the Wiembecke, which is dammed at the foot of the rocks to the "Wiembecketeich".

Old Germanic place of worship, absolutely worth seeing. Interesting field formation. The rocks are walkable and there are many snacks.

Always a nice destination, whether by bike or on foot. On nice days but also pretty crowded.

The Externsteine are a real crowd puller.
Beautiful footbridges partly lead up in the stone formation and make the inquest a little adventure.
