The crash of an American B-17G bomber ("Flying Fortress") occurred on January 28, 1945, on the Riedener Berg above Weibern. The wreckage of the aircraft lay on the site for about five years after the Second World War, and local initiatives later campaigned against the forgetting of this near-disaster with memorial stones and historical accounts (among others via the Heimatfreunde Weibern).
