In the center of the city are the two leaning towers Garisenda and Asinelli, standing side by side. The Asinelli is 97 meters high, and the Garisenda is 48. Their names date back to their commissions in the early 12th century. The Garisenda was originally supposed to be about 60 meters high, but due to its steep incline, it was reduced to 48 meters.
You can climb the Asinelli, but you have to climb the nearly 500 steps.
Students wait until they have their diplomas in hand, because according to legend, if you climb it while still in college, you won't finish your studies.
