According to legend, Canon John of Nepomuk was Queen Joanna's confessor. The king wanted to learn from him what sins she had confessed. Because the priest did not violate the seal of confession despite severe mistreatment, King Wenceslas had him thrown from the Prague Bridge into the Vltava River, where he died. The saint is considered the patron saint of bridges.
